Kill to Eat?

For the main part in (western) society meat is bought in supermarkets, wrapped up in plastic packaging. This and advertisements create a gap between the living animal and the food we eat. For example people start to associate chicken with either the product they buy in the supermarket or with the animals they see on a farm. These two examples are the extremes. Because of these associations people are less aware of the fact that we need to kill an animal before you can eat it.

In western society it is considered cruel to slaughter an animal or experienced as unpleasant to see a dead animal. This while meat is consumed at enormous amounts on a daily basis.

The following photo series shows the necessary steps to acquire a piece of meat, in this case chicken. What does it look and feel like to take a living beings life?

This series tries to confront the beholder in a dramatic way about all these given facts and hopefully evoke the question if they are willing to take ones life to be able to eat meat.
